Carrol Samuel Edens, age 83, of Wilmington passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter.

He was born on August 22, 1934 in Holly Ridge, NC to Leonard and Annie Howard Edens.

Carrol was a longtime and faithful member of Temple Baptist Church where he was a member of the Jack Marshburn Sunday School Class. He served the church as a Deacon and on many committees including the Pastor Search Committee and was a coordinator of the Wednesday night suppers.  He was named a Deacon Emeritus and was known as “The Hugger” by his many church friends.

He was a proud veteran of the US Army and retired from DuPont in 1993. In his retirement he enjoyed playing golf and working in his vegetable garden.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Garrenton Edens; three children Jeff Edens, Dana Edens, and Forrest Edens and wife Becky; sister-in-laws Catherine Edens and Faye Edens. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Leamon and Victor Edens.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday June 14, 2018 at Temple Baptist Church 18th and Market Street. The family will see friends starting at 10. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Temple Baptist Church or a charity of choice.

A special thanks to all of the heathcare team at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and the Lower Cape Fear Hospice for the care given to Mr. Edens and his family.

    Carrol was such a gentle soul. He made us feel so welcomed . He will be missed by everyone one that had the privilege to have known him.     Condolences to the Family. As Carrol's supervisor for many years on "B" Shift at DuPont I grew to respect Carrol's wisdom and his honest opinion. He was a fine human being. I really loved him. I'm sure God has a good place for him.
