Susan M. Souhrada, 86, of Hampstead, NC, formerly of Bay Shore, NY, died peacefully at home on December 17, 2017 after a brief illness. Sue was devoted to her family, community and church, and known for her wonderful sense of humor.

Sue was born on February 5, 1931 in Bay Shore to the late Ambrose and Helen Shaughnessy.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, grandson Patrick Cole, and siblings Anne Weischedel and James Shaughnessy.

Sue is survived by her children Beth (Jim) Fortunato, Jane (Cliff) Forstadt, Robert (Regina) Souhrada, Carol (Richie) Poole, Steve Souhrada, Chris (Blanca) Souhrada,  grandchildren Katie Fortunato, Kristy David, Amy Ballenger, David Cole, Brian Cole, Tom Souhrada, Tiffany Souhrada, Alissa Souhrada, Leigh Anne Poole, Julia Poole, Ciena Souhrada, Charlie Souhrada, Ana Souhrada, Susan Souhrada and 10 great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sisters Joan Walsh and Mary Jane (Bill) Beaulieu and sister –in-laws Dorothy (Tom) Costello and Mary Lou Locke and many nieces and nephews.

Sue’s family would like to thank Dr. Michelle Jones of Wilmington Health for her extraordinary kindness to their Mom.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
