Arthur William Conkle, Jr. passed away Saturday, March 30,2019 at his home following a long struggle with Dementia. Arthur was the husband of Thelma Louise Conkle (Deceased) and Father of Glenda Susie Carter (Deceased). He was 88 years old and had lived in Leland NC for 40+ years.

Arthur was born in Cherokee County Alabama on September 9th, 1930 and graduated High School as valedictorian of his class. Arthur enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and achieved the rank of E-9 (Top one percent of Enlisted Navy Sailors). He also served in Vietnam. After serving 20+ years in the USN, he retired and moved to the Castle Hayne / Leland NC area. Arthur also worked 20+ years as a manager at General Electric’s Nuclear Division in Castle Hayne, NC.

Arthur attended the River City Reformed Church in Wilmington, NC and was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Leland, NC.

Arthur was the eldest son of Arthur William Conkle, Sr and Dora Marie Edge of Cherokee County, Alabama. He is survived by his two sisters: Chiquita Daniel and Winona Campbell. He is also survived by his son-in-law: Howard Carter.

Visitation will be 5-7pm on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the Village Road Chapel 525 Village Road, Leland, NC. The Funeral Service will be 11am on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at the Village Road Chapel, with burial to follow at Nelson Cemetery.
