Brian N. Hobbs, age 64 of Wilmington passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at his home.

Brian was born in Raleigh, NC on June 17, 1955 to the late William G. Hobbs and Esther Pickard Hobbs.

Brian was a Professional Land Surveyor, he owned and operated Hobbs Surveying Company, and was involved with many construction sites and construction projects in the local tri-county area for several years. He was a math genius and loved the challenges the surveying profession brought him. He loved being in the outdoors with nature no matter what the weather.

Brian loved to laugh and make others laugh. He lived for laughter and you always knew when he was in the room. He loved his music and was an accomplished and talented pianist. His favorite music was Jazz and he had an extensive collection from which he could name every song and artist. His music often brought him solace and peace in his life. There was always a tune playing in his head.

He also enjoyed traveling especially to the islands of the Caribbean.

Brian was loved by his family and many friends and co-workers. He loved his brothers dearly and his “Momma” Hobbs. He looked so forward to watching his niece and nephew’s children grow up. He lived life to the fullest and his infectious laugh will be greatly missed.

Dear Brian, the demons are gone and you are now in the arms of the angels. May you rest in peace forever, but we all know you are probably dancing with those angels right now!

He is survived by his sister in-law Kathy Hobbs of Porters Neck; niece, Ava Hobbs Kastner, nephew, Joseph Hobbs and their children Hank, Grady, and Neko. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Grady A. Hobbs and William G. Hobbs, Jr.

A celebration of life to be held at Oakdale Cemetery, 520 N 15th Street Wilmington, NC 28401 on Saturday, Feb 22nd,at 2:00 pm with a reception following at the Oceanic Pier and Restaurant in Wrightsville Beach.

    Miles McCall says:
I will miss Brian!! May God grant his family peace. Years ago I took a job with the John R. McAdams and took a cut in pay, with the condition that I would be Brian's instrument man. I wanted to learn from the best!! Brian was the best and not just at surveying. He lived LARGE and everybody knew Brian was in the room! There IS nobody like him. The world will be a quieter and sadder place without him.

Hard to believe that you are gone♥️so many memories growing up with you Bill and Grady and Aunt Esther! We always loved going to Aunt Esthers, always going to Bill and Sue's for celebrations! You were always the life of the party for sure. You had a heart of gold and would help anyone. We always somehow ended up at the same places in Raleigh! All the times we visited Wilmington and had a blast. Rest in peace cuz love you always until we meet again♥️

Too many memories to say...I lost one of my very best friends today. I loved him so much. The most genuine, humble to a fault, brilliant and God fearing person, I've ever known. He loved hard. Those of us who knew him well, understood his passion for love and life and work. He's with God and family now, right where he should be. His Angels have been holding a place for him in Paradise. He will never be alone again. God's Peace my brother, Brian, You will always be remembered by the people you touched. ♡♡♡
