Cheryl Ann Slowik

Memorial Gifts & Donations

Cheryl Ann Slowik (otherwise known as Mi Mi) made her final journey home to be with Jesus on Sunday, February 21, 2021.  Cheryl was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on June 14, 1946 to Mary and Francis Duckett.  She spent the early part of her life in Fall River and eventually resided along the coast at Westport, MA where she met and fell in love with her adoring husband of 28 years, Thomas Slowik.

Cheryl retired from Massachusetts Rehabilitation Center after 30 rewarding years of service.  She loved to make people laugh and to bring special people in her life joy through the most thoughtful of gifts.  There was never any animal or baby that Cheryl did not adore.  Her world especially revolved around her two grandchildren, Peyton and Bryson Furtado.  From the times of their births Mi Mi repeatedly reminded them they were loved, “to the moon and back, a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck!”

It was bittersweet for Cheryl, in 2019, to bid farewell to family, friends, and the life she had always known in Massachusetts.  Yet she was extremely excited to pack up her belongings and head down south to Wilmington, NC where she could spend the remainder of her days near her son and his family.  While residing in Wilmington, Cheryl also relished in her Sunday morning worship time, her Sunday School meetings in the Wells class, and her weekly Senior Adult Luncheons with First Baptist Church.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Francis, her mother, Mary and her husband, Tom.  She is survived by her son, Brian Furtado, her daughter-in-law, Kim and her grandchildren, Peyton and Bryson.

A celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Pine Valley Baptist Church on Shipyard Boulevard.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401

    Vera Baldwin says:
My sincere sympathy to family & friends of Cheryl. I just learned recently that she had passed. I was very sad to hear this. I worked for many years at the Westport family medicine center where I had the pleasure of waiting on her often & talking with her all the time at the front desk. She always made me smile. We became very friendly. We also always ran into each other at our nearby Lee’s Market. I knew Mr Tom as well , as he always told me to call him. My deepest sympathy in both their loss. Cheryl was a treasure to know. As was Mr Tom. So very sorry. Sincerely- Mrs . Vera Ann Baldwin -33 Boysenberry Drive Westport, Ma. 02790
