Deborah Richardson Novotny, age 69 of Wilmington passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.

She was born in Onslow County, NC on May 19, 1952. She grew up in Wilmington and attended Hoggard High School. Deborah had many jobs in Wilmington, but her most loved job was working at Port City Taxi as the Lead Dispatcher. Deborah enjoyed fishing, traveling especially to St. Augustine, FL, but her favorite thing was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Richard L. Novotny; her son, Jimmy Cottle; brothers, Herschel Hewett (Betty), Chris Hewett (Betty Jo), and Kenny Hewett (Marion, and Tracy Hewett (Robin); grandchildren, Bethany, Lizette, Erica, and Ricky; and several great grandchildren; her special pets, “Mocha”, Pretty Girl”, and “Bugger”. Remembered are her parents, Walter and Iris Hewett, her son Ricky Cottle, Sr. and a grand-daughter Abby who preceded her in death.

The family will see friends from 3 to 5 pm Sunday, June 20, 2021 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held 11 am Monday, June 21, 2021 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel led by Rev. Bobby Wilson and Rev. Susan Flewellin. Burial will be at Prospect Cemetery in Wilmington.
