October 23, 1924 - January 26, 2019

Elizabeth “Liz” Ann Nelson, 74, died peacefully at home on Saturday, January 26, 2019 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Born on October 23, 1944 in Berwyn, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Austin Vincent and Ethel Elizabeth Felt.

Liz is survived by her daughters, Tracy Nelson of Charlottesville, and Tricia Melvin and husband Patrick of Wilmington, NC; and five grandchildren: Austin Nelson, Evan Nelson, Owen Pence, Field Melvin, and Finley Melvin. She is also survived by her three siblings, Nancy Snyder of Houlton, ME; James V. Felt, M.D. of Lafayette, CA; and Mary Hartman, of Des Plaines, IL. She leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.

Liz loved to travel and had visited four of the seven continents. She was an avid reader and loved to spend time at the beach with her family and friends.
Liz graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. She landed in Charlottesville in 1979 when she was promoted to Assistant Showroom Manager of Best Products. Two years later, she was promoted again as the first female Showroom Manager. She continued her career in retail until she retired from S&K in 2009.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and volunteers of Sentara Martha Jefferson Cancer Center and Hospice of Piedmont for their kind and loving care.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 3:00-5:00 at Hill and Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville, VA.
