Memorial Gifts & Donations

Frederic L. Jurman of Wilmington, NC, passed away October 29, 2007. He was born November 23, 1961. Fred was born and raised in the Bronx, New York.

He was not a large man, but he lived big and played hard. He had a deep love of sports with his favorite teams being the Mets and Raiders. He was a member of many softball leagues over the years, and teammates often commented how he ran like the wind. You could often see him driving around town in one of the many red or black cars he had over the years exhibiting his love for music as it blasted louder than life. He had a great love for animals, especially his cats “Smokey and Bandit” who were the children he never had.

Frederic was preceded in death by his parents Hewitt and Janet Jurman.

He is survived by his long time companion Lisa Speirs of North Carolina, his stepchildren Erin Strzalka and husband Adam Svec and Maria Speirs all of NC. and grandchildren Catalina and Illana Svec, of NC. Catalina was a special joy to him being the only baby he ever put to sleep in his arms. Her Pa-Pa will be lovingly missed. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Patricia Crum and father-in-law Juan Rivera-Morales; brother Mark and M. J. Jurman; and uncle Norman and wife Ethel Jurman, sister in law Sonya Bertholf and husband PJ, brothers in law Angelo and Henry Grillasca and Juan and Michelle Rivera..

    Ben Erichsen says:
Fred was the first person to visit me in the hospital when I broke my leg, even though I barely knew him. He covered a lot of ground in the outfield. I hope he's having fun playing ball where he is now.
