Jack and Jean Ward

Memorial Gifts & Donations

Jack Tylon Ward, Jr. (77) and Doris Jean Coley Ward (75) passed away at their home unexpectedly on Monday, July 22, 2019.

Jack was the son of Jack T Ward, Sr and Daisy Lee Kennedy Ward both of whom predeceased him. After high school he joined the Army where he served with distinction and honor and eventually retired as a Sgt. Major. He loved his work with the military so much that after retirement he returned to work as a civilian.

Jean was the daughter of Benny Coley and Anne Adell Wilkerson Coley both of whom predeceased her. Jean graduated from Cape Fear Technical with her Associates degree in nursing. She enjoyed a long career of giving the most amazing care to those who needed it. She had a healing touch.

Jack married his “Lovely Bride” on December 30, 1966. They were blessed to live a long life together for 52 years.

Jack is survived by 2 brothers and sisters-in-law: Frank and Carol Ward and Ronald and Ada Ward. Jack and Jean are both survived by their son and daughter-in-law Jack Anthony and Jennifer Ward. They have 4 grandchildren: Katherine, Tylon, Beathan, and Oyne. Their loved ones will miss them always.

Together Jack and Jean enjoyed watching old movies, raising fur-babies, trying new recipes, and, in their later years, spoiling their 4 grandchildren. Separately, Jack loved fishing and shrimping and watching old westerns. Jean enjoyed embroidery and her friends of the Hoop Sisters. Jack and Jean were members of the First Apostolic Church of Southport, where they were dearly loved by their brothers and sisters. Like everything else in their life, they crossed over to heaven hand-in-hand.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life with military honors on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Chapel.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in their names to The Fisher House Charities via www.tmcfunding to help military families stay with their loved ones that are receiving medical care.

    Carol “Fran” Redwine says:
I worked with Mrs Jean Ward at Wilmington Health and she always called my extension for medical records or a chart. She was such a kind and loving Nurse. When my sister was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer she made a point to come track me down and she gave me a tight hug and said that God makes no mistakes and that My Sister would out live what the doctors had said and she was right. She will be missed by many. My heart goes out to their family but there is peace knowing they made heaven their home together. Rip Mr and Mrs Ward.

I never met Jack but knew Jean through our embroidery group. She sometimes joined us at McAlister's for lunch. I know she took good care of Jack just by the way she spoke of him. I'll miss her at our group. Prayers and hugs go out to the family for the sudden loss of your loved ones.
