Jean Mary Barton

April 13, 1947 - October 5, 2008

Jean Mary Gallagher Barton, 61 of Wilmington formerly of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away October 5, 2008 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter after a long and valiant battle with cancer.

She was born in Lancaster, England to Patrick Joseph Gallagher and Mona Crompton Gallagher who preceded her in death.

Jean is survived by her husband of 22 years Ray Barton, children Jeannine Ranni, Niki Dane, Billie Jean Fish, Denise Barton Taylor, Lorraine Ossolinski and Sue Ann Barton, 10 grandchildren and one on the way. She is also survived by 2 brothers Patrick and Liam Gallagher and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She worked with domestic violence victims and won two national volunteer awards – J. C. Penney Volunteer of the Year Award and President George H. W. Bush’s 1000 Points of Light award.

She was the best cook you could ever imagine and friends said she could even make dirt taste good. Jean loved to travel. She especially loved visiting England and also loved exploring different places.

Services will be private.
