John Milton Greene, age 99, passed away peacefully at home on September 3, 2019.

John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Arva Lee Greene, his children; Richard Greene, Kevin Lee Checketts, Donna Greene Norman, Robbin Checketts, Deborah Greene Bowman, Marc J. Greene and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John Greene was born in Blacksburg, South Carolina on October 7, 1919 to Mabel Claire Moore and Shadrach S. Greene. He served honorably in the Air Force for 26 years, serving in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War and later worked at Firestone Tire.

John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, reading and was an avid golfer. He was active in his church and served faithfully in many positions. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 6-8pm at the family home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 9:30am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1361 Old Fayetteville Road Leland, NC 28451 with burial to follow 12pm at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Montford Landing Road, Jacksonville, NC 28540.
