    Bronte Miller says:
Laura was a beloved friend in college. We lived in the same dorm most of our college career at UNC-Asheville. We ate together, studied together, and hung out together. One Spring Break, Laura took me home with her so we could hang out on Wrightsville Beach all week. When we broke down on the way in Charlotte, we had a brand new adventure figuring out how to get back on the road with no cellphone, no credit card, and almost no money. She is the reason one of my favorite albums of all time is Police's Synchronicity. She is also why I hate the taste of Rhine wine (way too many nights sharing a bottle). Laura had a sharp tongue and a generous heart. I loved her back then. Sophie, I know you were the light of your mother's life. I pray you find comfort, strength, and understanding in the coming days. I will be happy to hear from you if you want to reach out.

    Sophie says:
I met Laura when I came over from Europe to attend UNCA in the 1980's. Her dorm room was below mine for a while. She was a fun loving person, generous and kind. Later on, we lived both lived in the DC area, where we met up there again. She was always one to bring people cookies at Christmas, a tradition I tried to keep up, even when I returned to live in Europe again. I have fond memories of your mother Sophie, you whom she named after me. I'm so saddened to know she has passed. I shall light a candle in her memory, and I know it shall burn brightly, just like her personality. God Bless.

I met Laura when I came over from Europe to attend UNCA. Her dorm room on campus was below mine. She was fun, generous and kind. Later, we both lived in the general Washington DC area and we met up again. When I moved back in Europe permanently, she attended my daughter's christening in 1997. That was the last time I saw her. When she had you Sophie, she named you after me. I will light a candle in her memory and I know it will shine brightly, jut like her personality. God bless, and remember she is watching over you.

    Ivan K. Cohen says:
I am so shocked by the tragic and untimely loss of a woman who played a huge role in my life during my time in NC. Her impact on me cannot be overstated. Se was a larger than life character with a heart as big as the universe. That she always stayed in touch even after I returned to the UK is testament to her loyalty and enduring friendship. I have too many memories of her to relate here, and am devastated at her passing.
