Michael “Mikie” Alan Scott, 52, died on September 15, 2021. Born on January 1, 1969, as the “New Year” baby for New Hanover County.
He was an accomplished welder with extensive degrees and certifications, including trainer and instructor statuses. He graduated from Hoggard High School in 1987. He enjoyed time spent fishing and reselling, frequenting Johnnie Mercer Pier, and flea markets on a regular basis. He was a friend to all who knew him and will be missed by all. His generosity knew no bounds.
Mike and Laurie were high school sweethearts. Their love for one another became stronger when God blessed them with their son, Michael David, “Mikie Jr.” (“MJ”).
MJ and his father enjoyed riding around town, eating crab legs, watching sunsets, and spending time together. They also shared a love for baseball hats. Laurie and MJ will greatly miss their “PopPop”.
Preceded in death by his father, David Worth Scott, and his grandparents Reuben and Venora Eckhardt as well as Derwood and Lena Grace Scott.
Surviving him is his wife Laurie Mendoza Scott, son Mikie Jr, “MJ”; his mother Carol Scott Economou; brothers: David (Kim) Scott, Pete (Tyler) Economou; lifelong best friend Brant (Tonya) Pridgen; sister Maria “Mia” (Mike) Gilliland; nieces and nephews: Lauren Scott, Michael Gilliland, Trisha (Bobby) Warren and Aiden Warren.
Pall bearers are David Scott, Mike Gilliland, Michael Gilliland, Ed Fields, Larry Mendoza, and David Ward. Honorary Pallbearer is Brant Pridgen.
Graveside service will be held at noon on Friday, September 17, 2021, at Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington, NC. Services will be officiated by his loving aunt, Dr. Shelby Chadwick.

In his final acts of kindness, Mikie had chosen to be an organ donor saving numerous lives.
