Mildred Iris Ray, age 95 of the Wrightsboro Community passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center.

Mildred was born on May 18, 1925, in Duval County, Florida. She was a longtime resident of Wrightsboro and a member of Wrightsboro Baptist Church. She was the widow of William Joseph Ray.

Mildred enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, playing BINGO and cards, traveling, shopping, working in her flower garden, and enjoyed being with her cat “Tom”.

She is survived by her children, Billy Southerland and wife Anna of Wilmington, Patrick Ray and wife Evelyn of Texas, Iris Tinney and husband Tom of Texas, and Stacia Ray of Wilmington; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren’ two brothers, Stacy Rhodes of Texas and Bill Rhodes of California. Preceded in death by two sons, Steve and Danny; brother George Rhodes and sister Betty LeBrecque.

The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday, September 5, 2020, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel led by Rev. Mike Lewis. Burial will be at the Wrightsboro Baptist Church Cemetery on Castle Hayne Road.

    Aunt Mildred has led a wonderful life and will be greatly missed by many. My fondest memories was spending time with her either talking & laughing, fishing, or making sweet ice tea. She was a special Aunt to me. Prayers to her sweet family.
