Peter Thomas Donofrio, 75, of Wilmington, passed away on May 10, 2018 at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Peter was born in New Rochelle, NY, April 2, 1943, the son of the late Carl and Gertrude Mangin Donofrio, and was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament HS and the University of Connecticut, where he had earned his degree in Political Science while serving in the ROTC program. He had served in the US Coast Guard as a Lieutenant JG for 4 years.  Peter spent the majority  of his career as operations manager for the ports of Elizabeth, NJ, Genoa, Italy, and Wilmington, NC.  He retired as owner/operator of the Goddard School in Owings Mills, MD with his wife Diane.

He was a volunteer at the Fort Fisher Museum and North Carolina Aquarium and was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church. He had a special love for his family and friends and enjoyed reading, traveling, fishing, golf and the outdoors. He was loved and will be missed by many.

Peter is survived by his wife of 53 years, Diane Fego Donofrio; his son, Peter Donofrio; daughter Laura Donofrio Mercer; daughter-in-law, Jovita Tiskute Donofrio, son-in-law, MAJ Christopher Mercer, and several nieces and nephews in Wilmington and the northeast.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church 6650 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington.
