Roderick “Rod” Wynne Godwin passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 27th at the age of 72 in Wilmington, NC. Rod was born in Jacksonville, NC on June 7, 1949 to the late Leon Carlton Godwin and Iva Mae Parrish Godwin. He grew up with his brothers, Lynn “LC” Carlton, Donald Joe and Gary Lance. Rod attended Pembroke State University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He served our country in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Rod loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. He enjoyed fishing, watching UNC Tarheel basketball, and playing golf. Living in Topsail Island, Wilmington, and North Myrtle fulfilled his love of the beach. Rod shared a love for music with his many friends.

Rod is survived by his children, Michelle Godwin Richmond (Shane) of Kingsville, MD and Roderick “Rocky” Godwin Jr. (Kristina) of San Antonio, TX, his granddaughters, Heather, Kiersten, and Wynn, and his brother Gary Godwin (Julie) of Leland, NC. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, Lynn Carlton Godwin and Donald Joe Godwin.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 102 Ann Street, Fayetteville, N.C on Friday, May 6th at 2pm.
