Rosemary Gerdes Sweeney

February 20, 1953 - September 14, 2021

Rosemary Gerdes Sweeney passed away at home on September 14, 2021. Rosie is survived by brothers John and David Gerdes, sister Barbara Hughes, step-sons William and Kevin Sweeney, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her husband Bill, parents Carl and Ruth, and brothers Carl T., Richard and Robert.

Rosie grew up in Little Falls, NJ and spent summers at her family beach house at the Jersey Shore, a place she loved dearly.

For many years Rosie worked in Manhattan, first at Prudential and later as a senior account executive for Hirschfeld, Stern Moyer and Ross, an employee benefits consulting firm. During her professional career Rosie arranged her vacation time so she could spend long summer weekends at the beach house in Chadwick Beach, NJ.

The beach house remained the place Rosie loved best for her entire life. For the last 20 years she and husband Bill split their time between the Jersey Shore and homes in Wilmington, North Carolina and at the Fingerlakes in central New York.

Rosie loved dogs and over the years had a number of Cairn Terriers, most recently her beloved pet Finn. Rosie was also a music aficionado and enjoyed playing her collection of prized guitars.

Family and friends remember Rosie for her sarcastic wit and her wonderful story-telling ability. She laughed easily, and provided an often sardonic take on her richly lived life, filled with adventures in Manhattan and beyond.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington, NC in Rosie’s name.
