Sue N. Cottle 90, of Porters Neck Community, Wilmington passed away Thursday July 10, 2008.

Sue was born Harriet Sue Nankervis to Harry and Pearl Nankervis on August 30, 1917 in Oak Park, IL. She graduated from Oak Park High School. She was married to Richard (Dick) Arnold Cottle in 1940. In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by her brother Jack Nankervis who was killed flying his 100th Mission during WWII.

Sue and Dick moved from Philadelphia to Wilmington in 1972 to open and operate Cottle Equipment Company, a John Deere Industrial Business. They shared a love of travel especially to the Southwest to visit areas they were in love with when they lived there years ago. Sue became very involved in the community serving as a faithful member of Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church. She also volunteered with the Salvation Army dressing dolls and distributing Angel Tree Christmas toys. Sue was a member of the Newcomer’s Club and the Crape Myrtle Garden Club. She worked with the New Hanover County Public Library and the Cape Fear Literacy Council where she taught English. Sue shared her love of church, family, friends, nature, travel and books.

Sue is survived by her daughters Chris Mueller of Delaware and New Jersey and Linda Brobson of Raleigh, granddaughters Sue Winn and husband Tim of Eagle, CO, Karen Mueller of Chicago, IL, Tricia Brobson Craig and Heather Brobson both of Raleigh, great granddaughters McKenzie Brobson of Raleigh and Lucy Winn of Eagle, CO, nephew Lew Benedict of Florida and niece Marti Jurak of IL.

A celebration of Sue’s life will be 1:00 PM, Monday, July 14, 2008 at Pearsall Presbyterian Church. Sue will be interred with her beloved husband Dick in Wilmington National Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the Howell Building and would love to hear stories about Sue’s life.

Memorials may be sent to Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Salvation Army, New Hanover Humane Society, Inc., the Cape Fear Literacy Council or New Hanover County Public Library.
