Condolences for Robert Irwin Kohut, MD

Dr. Kohut was very important in my life. He diagnosed my hearing loss caused by PLF at a time when that diagnosis was scoffed at. In surgery he visually verified and repaired three leaks with blood patches. My hearing stabilized with no additional loss. As a performing violinist, teacher and university professor, he was responsible for my continued professional life. I and my family are forever indebted to him.

Condolences to the Kohut family. i was one of his ENT residents at UC Irvine shortly after he arrived. He and his wife Joanne were such gracious hosts and made everyone in a room of strangers immediate friends. he was always looking out for the residents even before "wellness" became a program in all residencies. A true gentleman always with a kind word and smile. Always with pleasure and pride to say i trained under Dr. Kohut/

Many condolences for your loss. I knew Bob as a colleague, as my ENT doctor, and as my patient (I looked after Bob for several years before he moved to Wilmington). His fundamental beautiful personality shined like the sun. I am sure he is in heaven doctoring on all the angels. We will all miss him!

I was a patient of Dr. Kohut at the U. of Florida Shands in the late 1960's at age 28, with a middle ear tumor. Dr. Kohut had the right approach and cured me for life. What a great Doctor - the one who saved my life. Knew that he worked at Bowman Grey in WS, bur never knew he retired in Wilmington as I did. My best wishes and prayers for all his family... John H.

Dr. Kohut meant so much to me as his patient. His dedication, knowledge and professionalism was exceptional. He correctly diagnosed the cause of my extreme vertigo and loss of hearing and successfully performed surgery. My sincerest condolences to the Kohut family. Thank you for sharing him with us.

Susan and I are so sorry to read about Dr Kohut’s death. Bob was a dear friend of mine at the Wake Forest School of Medicine (Bowman Gray) for the entire time he was there. I remember his many interests, including vertigo, well. He was a great gentleman and will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Dr. Robert Kohut was a very intelligent, caring and lovely person who meant alot to me and to his children and grandchildren. I especially remember is invaluable medical help and reassurances when Cliff and Liz were just little kids..always available no matter the time with kindness, information & directions to help us through the illness or condition we were dealing with at the time. I have fond memories of weekends and holidays spent with him at his tree farm and home in Winston-Salem. The children were very blessed to have him in their lives and he will be missed by all of us.
