Barbara- I worked with Walt at SSA 's Computer EDP systems on the Midnight shift back in 1968-69 when were gaining IBM systems & supervisory experience before going to day shift as Programmers. As an operator & programmer, Walt was always at the top of his game & kept things lively (just short of animal house) when things were boring & dull. We were all just a bunch of young mid 20 year old "hot shot" early self-proclaimed computer whiz & Walt was one of the sharpest of the bunch. I remember when we got off in the morning after midnight, whenever Walt was going out onto Security Blvd in his 1963 Chevy Impala, & he say me in my 1963 Ford Galaxie XL, Walt would try to get me at the stoplight so we could drag race down Security Blvd. Good memories of a unique time with a good group of guys. I'm sorry this is a late entry, but I attended a SSA Credit union "virtual meeting" where I learned of Walt's passing along with that of another previous board member and their past dedication was remember in a moment of silence. Back in the day, I used to see Walt in the Credit Union & we exchanged some memories of those old mainframe computer days, and of course, those drag races between both our 1963 cars (Chevy v. Ford). Believe it or not, I still have that 1963 Ford, tagged & insured. I can only now offer my sincere condolences at your loss but fond memories & good stories are the valued jewels of remembrance.

Dear Barbara, Walt had a big personality augmented by his sincere, open heart. He always had a big smile, an amusing story to tell, and a way of making people feel good about themselves. He lives on in the kind acts and good that he did while here among us. His warmth, caring generosity, and fair mindedness will be sorely missed. The two of you were so good to and for each other. May loving memories of the life you shared comfort you during this time of sorrow.

Barbara, Please accept my deepest sympathy. Walt and i attended elementary school together from K-8 and lived in the same neighborhood. He was a very happy kid, always riding his bike through the neighborhood with his buddy John. Keeping you in prayer. Love, Lois

Barb, I felt a wave of sadness when I heard that Walt had passed. My special memory of Walt is the frequent sightings of him for many years while working at the NCC in Woodlawn, MD. Walt always had a smile and a warm greeting throughout the hallways, with such personality that was all his own. Walt R.I.P. Barb, my heart is heavy for your loss. My Prayers are with the Good Woman Wife and Best Friend of Walt that he so deserved. GODSpeed to healing and recovery during this difficult time.

Words cannot express how sad I feel for you, Barbara. I wish you many moments when you can feel the huge-hearted love that Walt brought to the world, and, most especially to you. At a time when we are exposed to so much hatefulness in the wider world, the memory of Walt’s open arms and caring attitude is even sharper. He was always on the lookout for how he could help—and he followed through! Of course, he was so lucky to have you in his life, which he had no trouble announcing to one and all. It is hard to imagine the immensity of your sadness. I wish you glimmers of joy and thank you especially for the photo of Walt and Jake. It speaks volumes. Much love, Ann

Walt always had a smile and joke for all who passed on the pier. I will never forget his joy when my carp took third place in the men’s division of the BYC Fishing Tournament beating out all the big sportfisherman. He laughed so hard while many sneered. They changed the rules, so that all fish had to be caught by boats in the Bay for the following year. We were passing through the Carolinas to look at colleges for Audrey when we received the news. Very sad, but I smile thinking of the joy he brought to my life.
