Condolences for Richard John Malter

Sunday May 2 via Facebook Last week was my 30th High School Reunion, and today I got the word that one of my classmates, Richie Malter, had passed away. Richie was one of the nicest boys I went to school with. He was friendly to everyone, and didn't care if others thought he wasn't "cool" by talking to someone. He definitely marched to the beat of his own drum. He was always asking me about my dream to go on to become a professional photographer (a dream I thought would never come true). I remember telling him this one day and he put his hand on my shoulder, looked deeply into my eyes, and said "it will. Dreams come true, you know." We kept in touch for the first two years while we were in college and slowly drifted apart when I stayed up in Rochester, rarely coming back to NJ. He also looked really great in his football uniform :) Richie-I made that dream of becoming a photographer a reality-THANK YOU my friend. Rest in Peace sweet Richie-you will be missed.

Richie you were full of life growing up and I feel honored to have been a part of that. I was very saddened to hear of your cancer. My condolences to your family and may all the happy memories that you have created (which there are many!) help all to get through the hard ones. May you rest in peace and be pain free.

My condolences to the Malter family. Richie was a friend and neighbor of mine, growing up in Fair Lawn, NJ. I remember him as a spirited boy, with a big heart. I'm so glad to learn that he grew to have a good life, with a wonderful, loving family. Very best to all of you.

My thoughts and prayers are with Richie's family. It was my privilege to call Richie a friend. We met at FLHS and remained in touch for many years. I hope that he knew how much he meant not only to his family, but to the many friends that he made throughout his life that was far too short. Rest in Peace, you will be missed.

I just saw you 3 weeks ago - I recognized your New Jersey accent and your ever deliberate method of communication! I will miss you. I will stop in and bug Marty from time to time as I know you would want. May your spirit be well and those left behind be drenched in good memories to bring them peace. Warm hugs to all of the Malters'.

We are all going to miss seeing Mr. Malter waiting to pick up Elizabeth. He was always so friendly to everyone in the building. I know Elizabeth is going to miss him greatly. We will watch over her for him, and he will watching her from up above. Our prayers and thoughts are with you both.

Janice and Elizabeth, You were blessed for so many years to have Rich as a part of your life. He loved the two of you with all of his heart. What a loving, caring and special man he was. Not only have I been inspired by his words, I know he has guided many people through life with his strength, insight, kindness and gentle way of speaking. Rich will be forever missed, but as he continues his journey with God, in a happy, pain-free existence, find peace in that you will one day meet again. All my love and deepest sympathy, Deb Hatley

Elizabeth, Janice, and family, I'm so sad for you all. Elizabeth, I feel lucky to have had so many great conversations with your dad when he'd meet you at afterschool pickup! He loved you dearly. To my former "Just Duet" Malter friends, I miss you all and remember those "good ole dancing days" fondly. You all have been and will continue to be in my prayers. Sure wish I could do more. Love to all, Susan Sheehan
