Dear Dan, you may not remember me from Bates, but I remember you and John so well. You two were the model of what a fun, loving adult relationship could and should be, and I am so very very sorry for your loss.

Dan, I worked with John at Cole Haan and treasured our professional relationship. He popped into my head this morning for some reason. My breath has been taken away by learning of his death. I am so deeply sad and heartbroken for you.

John was the best mentor I have come across in my career. He was warm, caring and thoughtful; always valuing people over anything else. I miss his smile and his friendship.

Dan, we are so very sorry for your loss. Life seems so unfair at times. Cherish the best of times you had with each other and allow yourself to be embraced by the love of family and friends.

Dear Dan, my thoughts are with you. I have some fun memories of bumping into John when we were both working downtown, him at Filenes and me at Jordan Marsh. But the Bates' memories are the best. Love, Erica

I have such wonderfully fun memories of John from days at K-O. What a nice, friendly, sincere and warm person. May his memory be a blessing.

Dearest Dan, Knowing the Bates grapevine, I was saddened to hear that John had died. My thoughts turned to the lanky engaging young man I knew as a friend while at Bates. My fondest memory of John is of him acting in my directorial debut in the play The Pushcart Peddler. I cast him in the role, because he naturally exuded the wide eyed naivete and charm that was necessary for the lead. Needless to say John was brilliant. He was always a happy, kind, and gentle person. Time has passed since that age of innocence, but I am not surprised by the sense of loss I feel. The world became a little less bright knowing that John was taken from you. My thoughts, prayers, and strength are being channeled to you Dan. May you learn to walk through life wrapped in peace that only time will hopefully bring. With much love. Alyse

I worked with John at Timberland for several years. I have so many fond memories of our time there. We had many good laughs together - he had such a fabulous sense of humor. He always had a twinkle in his eye and he had such a kind heart. I am very sorry to hear that he has left us and far too soon.

I am holding the memory of John Fiske very closely right now, as well as sending compassion and comfort to Daniel and all of John's close friends/family during this difficult time. Fiske was a rarity: his generosity and kindness was matched with his penchant for the fine and delicious things in life. I shall miss his lovely self. “There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief…and unspeakable love.” (Washington Irving)

I'm heartbroken. John was one of the nicest friends of my childhood memory. Always a smile on his face and a kind word. Speaking personally, he was always so supportive of every crazy adventure I happened to be pursuing, and it meant so much to me at the time. Not a judgmental bone in his body, his memory will survive as a power of example. My heart and prayers go out to his family and close friends. What a tragic loss. But many powerful memories of his irrepressible spirit will keep his joyous energy alive. Rest in peace my friend.

To the Fiske Family, I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I too have had to deal with the pain of losing a loved one in death. Through it all I was able to draw comfort from God's Word the Bible. Here are two scriptures in particular that I hope will give you a source of comfort. John 5:28, 29 and Isaiah 25:8. Please accept my sincere condolences. A toast to you John Fiske! You had a fabulous smile, a loud infectious laugh, and a twinkle in your eye each time we met. I know you best through the stories that Amy shared with me through the years but I loved how friendly and talkative you were each time I saw you. Rest in Peace.
